China is expected to move 1.6 billion passengers in the 40-day Spring Festival travel season starting yesterday.

The Ministry of Public Security urged transport authorities to take measures to ensure the safety of passengers.

The Beijing Transport Safety Committee has sent out more than 80 people to conduct inspections at 18 districts and counties.

Police said ticket scalpers will be severely punished.
