White Pagoda at Qutang Gorge in Fengjie County of Sichuan Province
Painted completely with lime outside, the octagonal, seven-storeyed, brick pagoda stands conspicuously at the mouth of Qutang Gorge. The time of its construction is unknown, but judging from its appearance and structure, the pagoda must have been built during the Ming Dynasty. Standing aloft, the pagoda has become the landmark of the entrance of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River, and it also serves as a lighthouse for ships and boats.
