The Stone Pagoda is situated on Solitary Hill by West Lake in Hangzhou. The Xiling Seal Engravers' Society was a learned society devoted to the study of inscriptions on bronze and stone tablets in modem history. It was organized in 1903 and chose its site on beautiful Solitary Hill by West Lake. Since the pagoda is near Xiling Bridge, it is also called Xiling Pagoda.
Since the pagoda is inscribed with the Huayan Scriptures, it is also called the Huajing (Huayan Scriptures) Pagoda. The total stone structure is more than ten meters high. Although it has Buddhist scriptures inscribed on it, the pagoda was really only a decorative element in the small garden of the Xiling Seal Engravers' Society.
