Sarira Pagoda at Xianyou Temple in Zhouzhi of Shaanxi Province
The pagoda is located inside Xianyou Temple on the northern side of Qinling Mountains south of the county town of Zhouzhi. The temple used to be a summer palace of Emperor Wendi of the Sui Dynasty. Between 601 and 604 Sarira Pagoda was constructed to hold Buddhist relics, thus changing the palace into a temple. The extant pagoda is a square, multi-eave, brick structure of seven storeys. Judging from its structure and shape, the pagoda should be a Sui Dynasty relic. The four-doored Sui Dynasty pagoda in Licheng of Shandong Province is a multistoreyed stone pagoda. This is the only one built of brick, a very valuable relic from the Sui Dynasty.
