This special economic zone in south China's Guangdong Province will become a city immersed in green in 10 years' time, according to an afforestation campaign for its downtown area.
The campaign will be launched on National Tree-Planting Day in March this year.
Statistics show that each person in the downtown area now has 7.22 square meters of public green land and 7.14 square meters of park area, and green land accounts for 26 percent of the total downtown area, leading the country but barely satisfactory in comparison with the standards prescribed by the United Nations.
The plan aims to increase per-person public green land area andthe per capita green land rate in the downtown area with an overall improvement of the city's outlook by mainly setting up more green squares and green belts, and planting more trees and grass along roadsides.
