A highway in Guizhou Province, southwest China, was recognized Tuesday as the road with the most bridges in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.
There are 151 bridges on the 179-km Guiyang-Bijie highway in the province, nearly one bridge per km.
The Shanghai branch of the Guinness Book of World Records issued a certificate to that effect today to the operator of the highway.
The rugged terrain on the Guizhou Plateau made so may bridges essential.
The Liuguanghe Bridge, the highest of the 151 bridges, soars 305 meters. Its pier, at 90 meters, is the tallest in China's highway bridges.
