HK Plans to Build New Express Train Linking Guangdong

Hong Kong is considering tobuild a new express train linking to the whole Pearl River Delta, the Hong Kong Administrative Secretary Donald Tsang told a media session yesterday during his visit in Shenzhen.

The Hong Kong initiative idea about this express train will definitely help to increase the capacity of the traffic flow between Hong Kong and Shenzhen and Guangdong, and in turn coveringthe whole Pearl River Delta, Tsang said.

"We have explore all avenues, which will increase the throughput in terms of goods, and in terms of passenger traffic," he said. "All these we believe will bring about higher economic activities, higher level of tourism and in turn higher income for Hong Kong people and for the mainland."

Tsang said it is a long-range proposition and Hong Kong government will bring it under feasibility study making sure it will generate sufficient return.

In a separate case, Tsang also gave a media session in Guangzhou Thursday talking about the Hong Kong's investment in itsinfrastructure including rail, port, airport and so on.

In the case of railway development in coming years, Tsang said,"we have already outlined our plans to build six different railwayprojects." The total investment of these projects is valued at a hundred billion HK dollars, and they will create new job opportunities in excess of 30,000, according to Tsang.
