Zhang Yimou Hailed for Martial Arts Epic

Celebrated Chinese director Zhang Yimou has dazzled Cannes with his spectacular martial arts epic House of Flying Daggers, which could match the success of his hit film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The eye-popping fight sequences in the film were greeted with gasps of astonishment and spontaneous applause by critics at the renowned movie showcase.

Zhang Yimou, who has three times been nominated for an Oscar, clearly loves martial arts movies and it shows on screen.

He thinks martial arts films are full of possibilities and wants to exploit them to the full.

Also, the director adds it is a challenge for each director to shoot martial arts which is an extremely interesting genre with a mixture of action and emotion. (Photo Source: Sina.com)
