74-year-old Wang Huichun began to learn how to paint when he was a child. Later, he studied sketch art at a studio established by Xu Beihong, a famous painter. In 1987, he became the last student of Liu Haisu, a contemporary master of art.
Wang's paintings are devoted to a wide range of subjects, including flowers, birds, landscapes, and animals. After several dozen of years of painstaking practice, Wang has made breakthroughs in the field of artistic creation. His works not only follow the styles and techniques of traditional Chinese painting, but also absorb the sense of space and the realism of Western painting. Wang has audaciously innovated the techniques used in traditional Chinese painting, and has achieved an unparalleled mastery of the application of white. In addition, by mixing black ink with multiple colors and applying strokes used in Chinese calligraphy to paintings, he has enriched the realism in his paintings.
Wang's bold innovations in traditional Chinese painting have won him the high esteem of Chinese art circles. Many of his works have been collected by art institutions and have been presented as state gifts to foreign leaders.
