When she first rose to fame at 6 years of age, Jolin Tsai was just a pretty girl singing songs that appealed to school children. At the time, she didn't seem outstanding. But through years of hard work, Jolin has already become a mega star in the truest sense, with a shining appearance, hot stage performances, and a mastery of a wide range of songs. And her accomplishments are fully shown in her brand new album Dancing Diva. CRI reporter Zhou Jing has the story.
Reporter: From debut album Jolin to Magic in 2003 and the latest one Dancing Diva, audiences can clearly see Jolin's change from a cute girl to a beautiful woman. And it's not just in her appearance -- her change is also from the inside.
"Every time I release a new album, I hope it appeals to audiences of different ages. So my selection of songs is not limited to one genre. But of course, in every album there are always some sweet songs and ballads that try to depict urban women in love and their mentality."
Up-tempo tunes are always the selling point of Jolin's albums. And with the release of every album, she breaks out brand new dancing moves. This time she combines eurythmics with hip-hop dancing.
Jolin says no one is born talented. To get the new dance moves right, she practiced for months.
"I've spent several months learning the eurythmics dance."
To show full support to their "princess", Jolin's new record label Capitol has shot music videos for all 10 tracks of the new album, regardless of the cost. Jolin, who has no film or TV experience, is content with her acting ability.
"I kind of like acting. But I still haven't made a movie of my own. I think it's much easier for me to get involved when shooting my music videos as I can associate them with my songs. But as I lack professional training in acting, I'm afraid I can't go so easily into the character if I'm shooting a real movie."
Though off-stage Jolin is still a young woman who also likes chatting online and gossiping over some hot news, on stage she suddenly turns into a super star, conquering audiences with her charisma and talent.
