New Home for Great Hinggan Squirrels

The picture shows that squirrels just released from cages look curiously at their new home in the scenic park of Qianfo Mountain in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, September 25, 2003.

Over 3,000 squirrels are introduced from the Great Hinggan Mountains in northeast China. Forests of pines and cypresses in the Qianfo Mountain scenic spot are considered as favorable habitat for squirrels. Promoted by the concept of "build a ecological-friendly park" in recent years, greenery areas in the scenic spot now account for above 95 percent.

Now, the Qianfo Mountain scenic spot is home to some 30 varieties of wild birds and 10 species of wild mammals.
