An activity to clean up the world sponsored by the Jane Goodall Institute China was launched simultaneously in 20 communities in Beijing and Tianjin.
Under the auspices of UNESCO and Clean Up the World, the institute, in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction, launched the Roots and Shoots activity.
The activity, a global effort, is designed to urge individuals and communities to engage in cleaning up and protecting the environment. It involves 40 million people in more than 120 countries every year.
It is a major mass effort in China after the outbreak of the SARS that features human health and environmental protection.
The activity will last from August 2 to September 20.
