A Peking University graduate has received more than 100 job offers since media reported that he was earning a living by selling pork in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province.
"Finally, I can get out of the pork trade," said Lu Buxuan, 38, a Chinese language major from Peking University.
Lu said he did not seek the media limelight for economic reasons. "I am striving for a reasonable position in society," he said, "If the No.1 in the National College Entrance Examination in my county has to be a butcher, Peking University should establish a major in selling pork."
Shanghai Movie Art and Performance School had offered a teaching position to Lu. "Since Peking University enrolled him, he must excel in some aspects," said Wang Yong, head of the school.
Li Kean, a senior official with the Peking University indicated that the university would like to help Lu, but said being a good butcher could also mean a successful future in a diversified society.
Cui Shixin, Lu's classmate at university and a reporter with the People's Daily, sympathizes with Lu. "He was very optimistic and talented," Cui said. "Is there such a surplus of talent in the west that a Beida graduate has to sell pork?"
Another student in his class became a street cleaner in the west, said Cui.
