Top Chinese Legislator Meets Belgian Delegation
China is fully aware of the important roles that Belgium and the European Union play in European and international affairs and is keen to cooperate further with Belgium in various fields.

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remark in a meeting with a Belgian delegation led by Belgian Minister of Defense Andre Flahaut in Beijing on Tuesday.

Li said bilateral relations between China and Belgium had developed smoothly in recent years and both countries had made progress through cooperating in such fields as military and parliamentary exchanges.

Li praised the friendly cooperation between China's NPC and the Belgian Parliament and said the NPC would like to boost such cooperation.

Li said China appreciated the Belgian government's adherence to the One-China policy, and he hoped Flahaut's visit would further improve the friendly cooperative ties between the two countries and the two armies.

Flahaut said Belgium greatly valued Belgian-Chinese relations and was keen to further encourage friendship and mutual understanding between both countries.
