The taxi bodies in Macau launched today a campaign to assess the behavior of taxi drivers with the help of residents and tourists.
The taxi service will have a direct impact on the tourism business to a great extent, as taxi is a major means of public transport in Macau with some 1,000 drivers, organizers of the campaign said.
While taking taxi, people can obtain voting sheets in Chinese, Portuguese or English forms, fill in the sheets, and then drop them into the special collection boxes at port areas and tourist sites.
Taxi customers can appraise the drivers in the aspects of manners, driving security, road familiarity and car tidiness.
The voting sheets are valid in the coming two months, and the final result of appraisal will be announced in November, when 100 outstanding taxi drivers will be given certificates of merit and other awards.
Statistics show that only 72 taxi customers registered complaints against the drivers in the year 2000, while the figure stood at just 64 in Macau in 1999.
