A railway line linking Daxian County of Sichuan Province and Wanzhou of Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, was completed Tuesday.
The 157.53-km-long railway constitutes an important part of a railway network running along the Yangtze River.
As the first railway in the area around the Three Gorges Reservoir, a massive water conservancy project under construction, it is of great significance in boosting local economy and tapping local resources.
A total of 118 bridges and 56 tunnels, whose combined length account for 36.3 percent of the railway, were built along the route. Construction of the railway started in October of 1997.
