China Honors WTO Promise on Tariff Cuts

China's Finance Minister, Jin Renqing, says the country has made almost all of the tariff cuts needed to fulfill its commitments to the World Trade Organization.

China's tariff level has been dropping by an average of one percentage point a year since the country's WTO entry in 2001, a rate which has been met with approval by the international community.

Earlier this month, China announced its latest tariff reduction plan for 2005, shifting the country's overall tariff rate from 10.4 percent in 2004, to 9.9 percent in 2005.
