The Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Super Brand Mall raised the curtain on holiday entertainment and promotions. There's plenty in store.

The ceremony began last week with a single crystal light at the bottom of huge chandelier, and as guests waved their "magic" wands, one by one all the crystal lights were turned on - to the very top. Popular singers Xue Zhiqian and Qi Wei shared their holiday joys and best wishes.

"Christmas is a time for sharing, giving and loving," says Robert Welanetz, CEO of Super Brand Mall. "We hope to spread the warmth, joy and friendliness of Christmas to people in Shanghai."

The "Beautiful Instant" photo promotion rewards those who make a purchase of 50 yuan (US$6.80) or above anywhere in the mall through Christmas Eve. Customers are eligible for a free photo at the Fresh Bakery on the fifth floor. Pictures are taken by a professional photographer, and printed for free. Limit: one per shopper per day.

At 5pm on December 22 and 23, a choir of 15-year-olds will perform on the second floor in the "Voice of the Angel" program. Numbers include bright songs like "Jingle Bells" and serene music like "Silent Night."

Children can play at the Christmas cartoon park along the mall's Golden Avenue. They can frolic with powdered snow and enjoy a snowball fight.

On December 22, the Looney Tunes cartoon characters will go on exhibit. Children and their families can pose for pictures with the figures.

Tang Xiao, "Super Girls" contestant and a student at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, will perform excerpts of the classic musical "Cats."
