In an effort to ease the strain on Beijing's graduate job-hunters, the authorities are to limit the number of graduates from outside Beijing seeking employment in the capital.
However, postgraduates will be unaffected by the measure.
Some 130,000 graduates will be busy looking for jobs in Beijing in 2004, 50,000 of whom are natives of the capital, while it is estimated that there are only 48,000 suitable vacancies.
However, graduates from outside Beijing who have sought-after skills will be allowed to continue their job-hunt, and priority will be given to those who come from poor families.
