Beginning Saturday, residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will be able to drive with a temporary license during a short-term stay in Beijing.
Before, people from the three regions had to obtain a residence permit in the capital city before getting a driver's license.
Under the new regulation, citizens from the three regions to visit relatives, buy an apartment or work temporarily in Beijing but who are not eligible for a residence permit may still obtain the special driver's license.
They need only submit passes from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, or other entry certificates, and their home driver's licenses, and need not take any examinations.
The license is valid for three months, but is renewable. It will show the driver's temporary addresses in Beijing.
