Food and clothing remain the top items on Spring Festival shopping lists, according to the latest survey by Market-Expert (Shanghai) Co Ltd.
About 75 percent of people responding to the survey, which covered 1,505 families in five Chinese cities including Shanghai and Beijing, said they would maintain tradition in New Year's purchasing this year.
More than 85 percent of shoppers said they would buy food, while 45 percent said they would buy clothes and shoes.
More than a quarter of shoppers also planned to buy cosmetic products and another 26 percent household items.
Other items popular this year are home appliances, telecom products, tonics and computers.
