US-based Amway, the globally known producer of household goods, on Wednesday set up its first small change donation box in Kunming city, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.
The boxes are expected to be set up in nearly 100 Amway branches in 88 of the country's big and medium-size cities and all donated money will be used to sponsor children's education and welfare in China's northwest hinterland.
This is one of many welfare causes Amway supports in China, according to Chen Chaolong, manager of the firm's south China branch.
During 2002, Amway sponsored a total of 246 welfare activities in China to the tune of 15.3 million yuan (about US$1.84 million), Chen said.
Founded in 1959, Amway currently operates in more than 80 countries and regions worldwide and entered China in 1995.
