The Shanghai Population and Family Planning Committee will offer a citywide free consultation for the migrant population from today until next Thursday.
Committee officials revealed yesterday that medical experts will give lectures on family planning and distribute contraceptive medicine and tools. According to the committee, babies born to migrants accounted for 28.8 percent of newborns in Shanghai in 2001, up 22 percent from 10 years ago. The city has so far established 320 free contraceptive distribution centers and 19 medical service centers for migrants.
