Several women lawyers from the Beijing Bar Association visited female prisoners in Beijing’s Women Prison and Reeducation Center for the first time on November 23.
The women lawyers, most with professional careers spanning more than 20 years, donated one thousand books to the female prisoners. The books are mainly designed for women, with titles like The Weakness of Women, The Power of Woman. The lawyers conversed with over one hundred prisoners selected from more than three hundred imprisoned and six hundred juvenile delinquents being reeducated in the facility.
The lawyers answered some juristic questions from the prisoners. Many prisoners are deeply concerned about their children. They were eager to know whether their children are being subject to discrimination or restrictions when applying to university due to the actions of their mothers; whether they can change their children’s guardians; whether, as a female prisoner, they have the opportunity to contact their children and family, or if there exists a prospect for parole. Lawyers answered their questions carefully and patiently.
