Legend Unveiled Cheap Digital Cameras
Despite the strong opposition it voices to low price strategy for the computer products, Legend Group, one of China's leading electronics producers, unveiled two digital cameras yesterday at prices nearly half of those on the market.

The Legend So.Show303 is priced at 1,999 yuan (US$242) and the crystal displayer equipped version of the same model carries a price tag of 999 yuan.

With these two low-price models, Legend said it aims to expand its share in China's digital camera to 20 percent this year, and enlarge the share to 30 percent in three or five years.

Legend attributed its lower costs in operation, research and development than those of its overseas rivals to the low prices.

A better knowledge of Chinese customers' demand and the strong R&D capability enable it to develop the new models, which are expected to be widely accepted in the local market, Legend added.

Of the three overseas brands Kodak, Sony and Samsung, which are dominating China's digital camera market, only Sony masters the core technologies of digital camera manufacturing, according to data from China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID).

CCID data also indicated digital camera market is experiencing a fast growth in China. The demand reached 115,000 in the first six months this year, a third up from the same period of the previous year.

Banking on the huge market, Legend is also eyeing to move into the digital imaging market.

The group is reportedly launching 600 imaging outlets nationwide to form its digital imaging network, according to today's Beijing Morning Post.
