China Central Television (CCTV) and Hong Kong Cable Television (Hong Kong Cable) jointly announced Friday that CCTV-9, the English international channel of CCTV, will be carried by Hong Kong Cable from July 1.
CCTV-9 provides English-speaking viewers in China and around the world with a wide array of news and current affairs programs 24 hours a day.
The channel also offers a variety of feature and entertainment programs with insights into China's politics, economy, history, culture, customs and other social aspects. The channel will appear as Channel 24 on Hong Kong Cable's digital platform.
With increasingly close ties between China and the rest of the world, the carriage of CCTV-9 by Hong Kong Cable will no doubt offer an opportunity for our English-speaking viewers to gain a better understanding and keep abreast of the developments in the mainland, Stephen Ng, chairman and chief executive officer of Hong Kong Cable said in a ceremony to announce the new service.
Tian Jin, the deputy chief editor of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China (SARFT) said the carriage of CCTV-9 will go a long way in promoting a better understanding and relationship between the mainland and Hong Kong as well as with the rest of the world.
Hong Kong Cable has already been carrying CCTV-4, a Putonghua satellite channel which offers reports on modern China's politics, economics, society, culture, science, education and sports in an objective and timely manner.
