Beijing Hotels Installs Anti-terror Cameras

Beijing police will install anti-terrorism cameras in entertainment places in star-rated hotels in Beijing, according to a meeting held by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau on Wednesday.

The bureau has been building a public security network across the city and has installed about 90,000 monitoring cameras. With the help of the cameras, police have seized about 3,000 wanted suspects and successfully cracked 120-plus gambling sites, according to Thursday's Beijing News.

The bureau plans to complete the public security system by the end of next year, which would be installed mainly in entertainment areas, public alleys and around cashier desks, said Ma Zhenchuan, director of Beijing Public Security Bureau.

The cameras inside the hotels are mainly used to fight terrorism in anticipation of a tougher security situation prior to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, according.
