Beijing has launched a public welfare campaign aimed at helping disabled children from poor families receive an education.

Vice Premier Wu Yi and celebrities, including Pu Cunxin attended the launch held on Friday to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons.

The head of China Disabled Person's Federation, Deng Pufang says he appreciates the establishment of the campaign. He hopes it will result in more disabled children being given the chance to go back to school.

China has about ten million disabled people; most of them are from central and western regions. More than 400,000 disabled children can't afford to go to school.
