TV Drama Charged for Illegal Use of Music

Two media companies from Fujian have been charged for violating intellectual property rights by using three popular songs in their TV drama production without permission.

The Chinese Music Property Rights Association took cases against the two companies, saying that they have illegally used songs belonging to its members, including the Qingzang Plateau, as its drama's background music in 2002.

The Association also sued a Bookstore selling the drama's VCD but the court turned the case down as the store acquired the sales rights by legal procedure.

China is struggling to crackdown on audio and video piracy and intellectual property rights have been recognized as a weapon in this battle.
