Israeli Legislator Expects China's Bigger Role in Mideast Affairs

David Magen, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Knesset, said Friday China can play a bigger role in Mideast affairs.

The Israeli legislator made the statement while meeting the press in Beijing.

Magen said he is glad to see that China has a clear understanding of the Mideast situation. Israel hopes that China can play a bigger role in Mideast affairs.

Israel and China have certain things in common, Magen said. Over the past decade since the two countries established diplomatic ties, Israel and China have carried out effective cooperation in fields such as agriculture and high-tech industry.

Israel and China have huge market potentials in economic and trade fields. They should strengthen contact and expand cooperation, he said.

The Israeli Knesset delegation headed by Magen came to China onJuly 4 for an eight-day visit at the invitation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China's National People's Congress.
