Production of the first batch of Chinese-made railcars ordered by Pakistan was completed Monday in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province. The railcars will recently be transported to Pakistan via northeast China's Dalian port.
The railcars, made by the Changchun Railcar Co. Ltd., were manufactured to meet Pakistani needs with special features such as specific rail width, local sources say.
Two electricity-generating and 12 air-conditioned sleeper railcars will be shipped to Pakistan for a formal trial run on August 14, Pakistan's Independence Day.
According to a contract between the Changchun Railcar Co. Ltd. and its Pakistan counterpart, China will manufacture 175 railcars for Pakistan. The Chinese manufacturer holds 50 percent and 95 percent of market shares of China's railway and subway cars respectively.
