Brazilian national team showed "talent and spirit" for winning the champion of the Korea- Japan World Cup, President Fernando Henrique Cardoso said in a news release issued on Sunday.
The 2-0 victory over Germany in the final was the fifth World Cup title won by Brazil in the 17 editions of the World Cup finals.
The head of state said "Brazil won the fifth champion. The Ronaldo's, Felipao's and the others players' tears at the final sound of the whistle, were tears from the emotion and hapiness forall the Brazilians."
"You showed with talent and spirit of team that our football still be the best in the world. Like all the brazilians, I felt proud and I'm moved by this historic victory," he said.
"Congratulations for everybody that gave this hapiness to the brazilians," Cardoso added.
