China will strengthen mutual trust and expand cooperation with Slovenia so as to promote bilateral friendly relations in the new century, Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao said.
Hu made the remarks Thursday at a meeting with Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, whose visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of Sino-Slovenian diplomatic relations.
Hu noted that Sino-Slovenian relations have advanced steadily in the past decade, there have been frequent exchanges of high-level visits, and the two sides have been cooperating well in economy, trade, science, technology, culture and education.
He stressed that China respects Slovenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the development path chosen by the Slovenian people.
China also understands Slovenia's efforts to join the European integration process, said Hu, adding China appreciates Slovenia's one-China policy.
There is a sound basis and broad prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields, Hu said.
Rupel voiced his admiration for China's achievements since his last visit 10 years ago as Slovenia's first foreign minister.
He said that China is an important force for stability and development, and Slovenia attaches importance to its relations with China and will work to further bilateral friendship and cooperation.
