Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie have exchanged congratulatory messages on the fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries, which falls on May 23.
In his message, Zhu said that on behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own name, he extended the warmest congratulations and best wishes to Christie and through Christie, to the Bahamian government and people on the fifth anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Bahamian diplomatic relations.
He noted that relations between the two countries have enjoyed smooth development and mutual understanding and friendship have been deepened since the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
Prime Minister Christie, on his part, said he was pleased with the positive and progressive development of the close and friendly relations between the Bahamas and China, relations that are guided by the principles of the UN Charter.
The relations between the two countries have developed at a time when the enormous challenges faced by societies and countries worldwide are expanding, said Christie.
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Bahamian counterpart, Fred Mitchell, have also exchanged messages of congratulations on the occasion.
