US aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk arrived in Hong Kong Monday morning for a week-long port call.
Kitty Hawk left its operating base in Yokosuka, Japan, on April 15. Today 41 years ago, Kitty Hawk made its maiden sail.
The port call provides a routine break for its crew members. Besides shopping and sightseeing, some crew members will take part in community services and play sport games with Hong Kong residents.
The Kitty Hawk is part of the US Navy's 7th Fleet, which covers areas of the Indian Ocean. Built at the cost of US$265 million in 1961, the carrier has an average displacement of 86,000 tons with a speed of 77 kilometers per hour.
