The Chinese and Japanese governments signed a document here Friday for the exchange of letters on the provision of loans by the Japanese government to China, according to the Chinese Ministry of Finance.
According to the document, the Japanese government has agreed to provide 161.366 billion yen in loans to China for the year 2001.
The loans will be used to fund 15 projects, which include road construction, power generation, environmental protection and personnel training. Most of the loans will be used in the central and western regions of China.
The Ministry of Finance said these programs will play an activerole in improving the environment and accelerating local economic growth in the central and western areas of the country.
To date the Japanese government has promised to provide a total of 2,829.1 billion yen in loans to China for 186 projects.
