Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters are regrouping in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan and getting ready to launch a full scale guerrilla war against the US troops and their allies stationed in the country, the Peshawar-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported Thursday.
Afghan Commander Hazrat Ali told the private news agency in Jalalabad, capital of the eastern Nangarhar province, that all military preparations have been made by the Taliban and al-Qaeda members to launch the guerrilla war in the preamble to a long-term campaign against the US and its allies.
"The guerrilla war is expected some time in April," said the commander, adding his forces were ready to fight against any operations by the Taliban and al-Qaeda network.
According to the AIP, Commander Hazrat Ali is one of the most powerful military commanders in eastern Afghanistan, who played an important role during the military actions against Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network in Tora Bora.
