Premier Zhu Meets DRC President

China values ties with DRC

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Sunday with Joseph Kabila, president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

During the meeting, Zhu said China and the DRC had a tradition of friendship and bilateral cooperative relations had seen steady development.

China had always valued its ties with the DRC. The DRC had abundant resources and there was great potential for bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Zhu said, adding that China encouraged Chinese enterprises to participate in the DRC's reconstruction.

Zhu said furthering bilateral friendly ties and tightening cooperation in various fields and international affairs benefited both countries and peoples.

While hailing the important role of Kabila's visit in promoting bilateral relations, Zhu said China was willing to elevate bilateral ties to a higher level.

Economic and technological cooperation

Kabila, on his part, said one objective of his visit was to join with China to explore approaches to promoting economic and technological cooperation between the DRC and China.

While extending thanks to China for its long-term selfless support to the DRC, Kabila said he welcomed more Chinese enterprises to participate in the DRC's reconstruction and development.

Kabila also reiterated that the DRC adhered to the one China policy and it was willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation on the issue of human rights.

Kabila is here for a four-day state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who held talks with Kabila on Friday.
