Sharon Wants Arafat's Fatah, Personal Guard on US Terror Lists

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called Tuesday for Washington to add Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah group and his Force-17 personal guard to the US terrorist lists.

"Arafat's party Fatah, its military organisation Tanzim, and Force-17 should figure on the US lists of terrorist organisations," Sharon said in Jerusalem, quoted by Israeli radio.

Israeli TV, meanwhile, reported that Sharon also wanted Arafat's Palestinian Authority to be treated as "an entity supporting terrorism."

The United States drew up lists of "terrorist organisations", including the Palestinian radical movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad, in the wake of the devastating September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
