"I know and confidently tell you that China is vastly importantto America," he said in a key-note speech to participants of the 12th World Productivity Congress held in Hong Kong.
"Will both the US and China work successfully to find a way to make the relationship in a cooperative and constructive manner? " said Bush," I think this is what US wants. I also believe that China does."
The former US president said that he was confident the relationship will be handled well and that his son, the current American president, shared this view.
He also said that "China's entry into the WTO is a very good thing."
"Trade will have immense effect on our relations," Bush said, "it will mean more trade and growth in China and a common base for the Sino-US economic relationship to grow."
The congress, under the theme of "Creating Wealth in the Connected Economy," opened Tuesday in Hong Kong and will continue to be held from Friday to Saturday in Beijing.
About 1,500 international speakers and delegates from over 40 countries and regions attended the forum addressing contemporary strategies, innovative approaches, new principles and best practices in productivity development to enhance competitiveness.
