At the invitation of President Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji arrived Jakarta Wednesday noon to pay a five-day visit to Indonesia.
During the visit, Zhu Rongji is scheduled to hold talks with Amien Rais and House of Representative Speaker Akbar Tandjung.
Before Zhu’s visit to Indonesia, he attended the 5th leaders meeting between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the 5th leaders meeting between ASEAN and China in Brunei.
During his stay in Brunei, Zhu gave a five-point proposal on furthering East Asian cooperation at the "10+3" meeting, and three observations on promoting Sino-ASEAN ties at the "10+1" meeting.
On the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings, the leaders of China, Japan and the ROK exchanged views on enhancing economic and trade cooperation. In addition, Zhu met with ROK President Kim Dae-jung, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, and Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, respectively.
The premier also met with the staff of Chinese embassy to Brunei on November 6.
