Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, met Tuesday with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Irshad Hasan Khan and his party.
Li said that since China and Pakistan established diplomatic relations 50 years, exchanges and cooperation have kept expanding in various fields.
The two countries hold identical or similar views on major international issues and have had good cooperation in international affairs, Li said.
During Chinese President Jiang Zemin's visit to Pakistan in 1996, the leaders of the two countries reached a consensus on forging an all-round cooperative partnership oriented toward the 21st Century, thus laying a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations, Li said.
Briefing his guests on China's legislation, Li said that in its legislative and judicial work China not only proceeds from the country's actual conditions but also draws on the experiences of other countries.
Li said that exchanges and cooperation between the judicial circles of the two countries will help the legislation in both countries and promote the overall development of bilateral relations.
Irshad conveyed the greetings of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to Chinese leaders and the Chinese people. He said that Pakistan is willing to learn about the characteristics of the Chinese legal system, which has contributed a great deal to the economic development in China over the past two decades.
Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court of China, signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with Irshad.
Xiao attended the meeting Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People.
