China Hopes US DPRK Resume Dialog

China wishes to see resumed dialogue between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue at Thursday's press conference.

When asked to comment on the recent progress towards resumption of dialogue between the two sides, Zhang said alleviation of the Korean Peninsular situation is in line with the interest of all parties involved. However, the halt in dialogue since the beginning of this year has hindered the momentum of alleviation there, she said.

China hopes that the U.S. and the DPRK would make joint efforts to promote the alleviation of the peninsular situation by holding talks on issues of common concern, said Zhang.

U.S. President George W. Bush recently announced that his administration has completed a review of its policy toward DPRK and the U.S. may resume dialogue with it.
