China to Build Northern End of Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway
Construction of the expressway connecting Guangzhou, one of the major gateways to south China, and Panyu in Guangdong Province will start in December this year.

The expressway is part of the northern end of a major north-south trunk highway linking Beijing and Zhuhai, the nearest mainland city to Macao.

An agreement on the expressway construction has been signed by Guangdong Provincial Highway Construction Company, Guangzhou City Panyu Highway and Bridge Construction Industrial Corporation and aHong Kong-based company.

The six-lane expressway will be 37.4 kilometers long and 35 meters wide. It will cost four billion yuan (about 482 million U.S.dollars) which will be borne by the three companies according to apre-set ratio.

The project will take four years to complete.
