A British businessman was chosen this week as one of the 10 outstanding youth in Shanghai, China's largest metropolis.
The businessman, Ian Strickland, was the first foreign national ever granted with the title both in Shanghai and elsewhere in China.
According to the appraisal rule, anyone aged between 18 and 40 who works and lives in Shanghai for more than a year is eligible for a candidate for a model youth.
Ian Strickland, 37, came to Shanghai since he was appointed advisor of the first B&Q store in Shanghai in 1998.
An official with the Shanghai Municipal Youth Federation said Strickland won the honor for his brilliant managerial ability, great enthusiasm in public welfare undertakings and everlasting ardor in community service.
Shanghai encourages foreign residents to take part in the selection of the 10 outstanding youth to implement the policy of absorbing talents from all sides.
