More than 10 young women had been reported missing after they went to the Senxinyuan job agency, the Daily Sunshine said Tuesday.
Police are said to have arrested a man suspected of abducting women but have yet to determine whether he was responsible for any of the Senxinyuan cases.
After the paper reported the disappearance of several women Monday and Sept. 29, more people contacted the Daily saying their loved ones had disappeared after going to the recruitment agency in Buji, Longgang District.
The disappearances had been reported to the Buji police station and, while police refused to release details, sources told the paper that some of the women might have been smuggled to Hong Kong by human traffickers.
Rao Songhua, Senxinyuan's general manager, told the Daily that police arrested a suspect Oct. 12 and found a resume of a missing girl and a large quantity of women's clothes at the suspect's residence.
A police officer said the man was suspected of abducting women but gave no details.
The Daily said most of the missing women were young and attractive. All were reported missing in the past six months.
The new cases reported by the paper Tuesday included 24-year-old Jiang Xuemei, who disappeared Aug. 18 after sending a short message to her boyfriend saying she was waiting for him on the second floor of Senxinyuan.
Yang Wenhong, 20, did not return after she left home Aug. 28 heading for a company called Huideli. Yang had told her brother that she was recruited by the company at Senxinyuan, the Daily said.
However, Huideli said it had never employed new workers at the job agency in Buji.
