China to Select National Flower, Tree and Bird
The State Forestry Administration announced yesterday that China would organize a nationwide election of a national flower, tree and bird, eastday.com reported.

The report hinted that peony and gingko would probable be finalists as the two topped the most favorite flower and tree respectively in previous nationwide elections, which failed however to determine the country's official emblems.

The list of the candidates for this election will be released soon, said an official with the Chinese Academy of Forestry, the organizer.

The results will be published after being submitted to the People's Congress for review, he added.

There are more than 120 countries in the world with a national tree and more than 40 with a national bird, the eastday.com report said.
