Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Huang Ju, urged local governments to use the opportunity of the "Go-West Campaign" to further speed up economic development in western China.
Huang made the above remark while touring the northwestern Gansu Province from Jan. 19-21, where he visited some local low-income families.
Huang pointed out that the economic achievements of some western provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities since China launched its "Go-West Campaign" in 1998 amply showed it was a wise policy.
During the historically significant period of building an overall well-off society in China, people in the country's western, central and eastern parts should work together to pursue their mutual goal, he said.
He noted that the economically developed eastern parts of China were duty bound to help the developing western regions boost their economies so that the country could achieve regionally balanced economic development.
