Five people were killed and 11 others wounded in a blast in Shaanxi Province late Wednesday, local officials said Thursday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the explosion occurred at 8:10 pm Wednesday in Jingbian Hotel in Jingbian County in northern Shaanxi.
The blast blew a hole 10 meters high and seven meters wide from the first floor to the third of the west side of the hotel, ripping off the ceiling of the third story.
A preliminary police investigation points to a criminal act involving the use of explosives.
