Construction of a major expressway in China's western region got underway Monday in Sichuan Province. Total investment for the project is 8.8 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion)
The expressway is China's largest road-traffic project funded by loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which total 300 million US dollars.
The expressway, which will connect Xichang and Panzhihua, both in the west of the province, in southwest China, is a major part of one of eight planned expressways in China's vast west.
Some 160 kilometers long, the expressway is scheduled to be completed within five years.
Zou Guangyan, vice governor of Sichuan, said the province will have 1500 kilometers of expressway by the end of the year.
